If you are an indie author, your cover is not decoration. It is your storefront, your billboard, and your silent salesperson, all in one rectangle. Readers judge a book by its cover because they have to. With thousands of titles a tap away, your cover has to do its job in a single glance, at thumbnail size, next to books with million-dollar marketing budgets.
This page is the complete, no-fluff overview of my book cover design service. I cover the process, the pricing, the realistic timeline, the revision policy, the exact files you receive, and how to write a brief that gets us to a winning cover fast. Read it top to bottom, or jump to the section you need using the table of contents.
"A cover should be a silent salesman. It must look beautiful, but more importantly, it must clearly communicate the genre and hook the reader instantly." That is the rule every design here is built around.
What You Get
Every cover project is built to do four things: look premium, signal the right genre, stay readable at thumbnail size, and hand you press-ready files with zero fuss. Concretely, here is what lands in your project:
- A custom, genre-accurate cover. Built from your story and brief, not a recycled template, designed to sit comfortably next to the top sellers in your category.
- eBook front cover on every package, plus a full print wrap (front, spine, back) on Standard and Premium.
- Print-ready and digital files in the correct color space, plus photorealistic 3D mockups for ads and social.
- Unlimited revisions until you love it, and a 3-day first draft so you are never waiting long.
- KDP and IngramSpark approval, guaranteed. If a printer rejects a file, I fix it free.
The Design Process, Step by Step
The workflow is deliberately simple. Most of the "heavy lifting" happens before I open Photoshop, in the briefing. The clearer your brief, the faster we reach a cover you cannot wait to publish.
Briefing
You share your title, subtitle, author name, genre and sub-genre, a short summary, a few "comp titles" you admire, and any visual ideas. This is where we discuss the soul of the book: your target reader and the emotional vibe you want the cover to carry.
First Concept in 3 Business Days
You receive your first fully custom concept within three business days of the project start. It is a real, finished direction, not a rough sketch, so you can reacts to something concrete.
Unlimited Revisions
We refine together. Revisions cover typography, color palette, composition, and minor visual elements. If the direction feels wrong, I will gladly start over with a brand new concept from scratch.
Final Delivery
Once you are 100 percent happy, I prepare print-ready and digital files plus 3D mockups and deliver them securely via WeTransfer to your inbox, with any barcode and spine details handled.
3 business days
to your first custom concept, with unlimited revisions after. A rush option is available for an additional fee if your launch is close.

Revisions & How Many Concepts
This is the part authors worry about most, so here it is plainly: revisions are unlimited on every package. You are not capped at two or three rounds. We keep refining until you are 100 percent satisfied.
On concepts, I do not flood you with five weak options on day one. I deliver one strong, fully custom concept first, then we sharpen it together. That keeps the process focused and fast. If it becomes clear we are heading the wrong way, I will happily throw it out and start a fresh concept from scratch, at no extra charge.
Pro tip
The fastest path to a cover you love is a tight brief, not more options. Tell me what is working and what is not after the first concept, and revisions move quickly.
Timeline & Turnaround
Most authors ask "how long?" before "how much?". Here is the honest timing:
- First concept: 3 business days from project start.
- Revisions: turn around quickly, usually within a day or two per round depending on scope.
- Rush service: available for an additional fee if your launch is close.
- Book ahead: I recommend starting 2 to 3 weeks before your launch or ad campaign so revisions have room.
- Availability: I work 24/7, so you can reach out anytime and I will reply as soon as possible.
- Flexible pause: if your editing runs long, you can pause the project and resume when the manuscript is ready.
Files & Formats You Receive
You walk away with everything you need to publish and promote, no conversions or guesswork required:
eBook
High-resolution JPEG, RGB, ready for Kindle, Apple Books, and Kobo.
Print-ready PDF with bleeds in CMYK, built to your printer's spec.
Source
Layered PSD (Standard and Premium) so the artwork stays editable.
Mockups
Photorealistic 3D renders for ads, social, and your website.
A few technical notes that matter for print:
- 300 DPI is the industry standard for professional printing.
- Bleed is the extra edge area that prevents white strips after the printer cuts.
- Spine width is calculated from your final page count and paper type.
- Barcode placement is handled, either leaving a space or embedding your fixed ISBN barcode.
Genres & Cover Styles
Every genre has its own visual language, and readers expect it. A thriller reader, a cozy mystery reader, and a high-fantasy reader are all looking for different signals in the first second. I design within the conventions of your category while still finding a fresh angle that makes your book stand out.
Common directions include:
- Character-based covers using professional stock photography and digital painting to bring your protagonists to life.
- Object-based covers built around a single striking symbol or prop, popular in thrillers and contemporary fiction.
- Typographic covers where licensed, genre-signalling fonts carry the design.
- Hardback case laminate (printed directly on the boards) and dust jackets, plus box set renders for series.
One rule governs all of it: thumbnail clarity. The title and main image must stay striking even at the tiny size readers see on Amazon search.
Rights & Ownership
You own the final flattened artwork and can use it anywhere you publish. A couple of practical points worth knowing up front:
- Fonts are licensed, not sold. I cannot hand over the font files themselves, so editing the PSD later requires Adobe Photoshop and the corresponding licensed fonts. The final flattened cover is fully yours.
- Your supplied images. If you provide a photo or artwork, you must own the rights and supply it at 300 DPI.
- Stock imagery. I source and license professional stock as part of the package price, so you are not hunting for assets.
File Delivery & Ongoing Support
- Delivery: final files arrive via a secure WeTransfer link to your email. Download and back them up promptly, since the link expires within 3 to 7 days.
- Approval guarantee: if KDP or IngramSpark raises a technical issue, I fix it at no extra cost.
- Archive: project files are kept for 30 days. If your page count shifts slightly before printing, I adjust the spine free within that window.
- Communication: all feedback and revisions are tracked over email so there is a clear written record.
How to Write a Brief That Hits
The single biggest factor in a fast, great result is the brief. You do not need design knowledge, just the right inputs. Include:
- Title, subtitle, author name. Exactly as you want them on the cover.
- Genre and sub-genre. "Fantasy" is not enough; "grimdark epic fantasy" changes everything.
- A one-paragraph summary. No spoilers, just the tone and stakes.
- Two or three comp titles. Covers you love (and a couple you dislike, with why).
- Must-haves and avoid-at-all-costs. Specific symbols, models, color moods, or things you never want on your cover.
Not sure yet? That is fine. Fill the order form with what you have and we will refine the brief together before any design work begins.

Publish Everywhere
Where Your Cover Will Live
A cover is only as visible as the shelf it sits on. Once your design is finished, these are the storefronts where readers will meet it. Every one is included in the $99 per platform publishing service, or you can upload the delivered files yourself. Either way, your cover is built to look right inside each platform's thumbnail.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the book cover design process work?
It starts with a briefing where you share your title, genre, summary, and visual references. You receive your first custom concept within 3 business days. From there we do unlimited revisions until you love it, then I deliver print-ready and digital files plus 3D mockups via WeTransfer.
How much does a book cover design cost?
Covers start at $99 for a custom eBook front cover (Basic). The Standard print plus digital package is $199 and includes a full wrap with spine and back cover. The Premium complete kit is $249 and adds hardback and audiobook covers plus all marketing mockups. Interior formatting starts at $149 and done-for-you publishing is $99 per platform. All prices are in USD with unlimited revisions and zero hidden fees.
How long does it take to get my first cover design?
Your first custom concept is delivered within 3 business days of the project start. A rush service is available for an additional fee if you are on a tight deadline.
How many revisions are included?
Unlimited revisions on every package. We refine typography, color, composition, and minor visual elements until you are 100 percent satisfied. If the direction feels wrong, I will start over with a brand new concept from scratch.
How many design concepts do I get to choose from?
I deliver one strong, fully custom concept first rather than overwhelming you with weak options. From there we refine it together with unlimited revisions. If it is not heading where you want, I will happily produce a fresh concept.
What files will I receive?
For eBooks you get a high-resolution JPEG. For print you get a print-ready PDF with bleeds in CMYK. Layered PSD source files are included in Standard and Premium, and you also receive photorealistic 3D marketing mockups.
Do you design the spine and back cover?
Yes. The Standard and Premium packages include a full print wrap: a custom-designed spine and a professionally typeset back cover, built to your printer's exact specifications.
Who owns the rights to the cover?
You own the final flattened artwork and can use it anywhere. Font files cannot be redistributed because of licensing, so the editable PSD requires Adobe Photoshop and the licensed fonts to modify. If you supply your own image, you must own the rights and provide it at 300 DPI.
What if KDP or IngramSpark rejects my files?
File approval is guaranteed. If a printer raises a technical issue, I fix it immediately at no extra cost. I stay current with KDP and IngramSpark specifications so files are rarely rejected in the first place.
How do I start a project?
Fill out the order form or contact me with your book details. I review your requirements and reply with the next steps and any clarifying questions. You can also book 2 to 3 weeks before your launch to allow time for revisions.
